This Interactive PowerPoint teaches when to use the trigraph tch to represent the /ch/ sound at the end of a one syllable word.
It focuses on words having to follow 2 rules in order to be able to use the trigraph tch.
- The word must have 1 syllable.
- The word must have a short vowel right before the /ch/ sound at the end of a word.
This animated PowerPoint includes:
- A child friendly Learning Intention.
- Syllable revision.
- Short vowel sound revision.
- tch words with a checklist- You have to clap the words and then check that a short vowel sound is right before the /ch/ sound at the end of a word.
- Does the picture have the /ch/ sound at the end of the word? Yes or No game.
- Elkonin sound boxes- Words with tch (with an explanation why- 1 syllable and a short vowel sound right before the /ch/ sound.
- Elkonin sound boxes- Words that end in ch (with an explanation why such as consonant, vowel team or r controlled vowel right before the /ch/ sound).
- Use the checklist to write the word. If both rules get a tick, the word ends with tch. If 1 or less ticks, the word ends with ch.
- Help the witch to match the words to the pictures.
- Read the words on the 'Etch A Sketch' pad.
- Feed the rabbit in the hutch the tch words.
- Help Fletch to catch the fish!
- Read the word that the pitcher pitches and sort it onto the correct side (tch or ch).
- Fix the quilt by finding each patch that has the long spelling of /ch/- tch.
- Read the ch and tch words on the cookie batch.
