Description
Grandpa's Great Escape, by David Walliams, is a great book for older primary school students who have basic phonic skills, but need literacy development for fluency and comprehension. The appeal of the story is the humour that carries the more serious themes of war, old age, dementia and death with sensitivity. The main characters of Jack and Grandpa provide the adventure and fun.
This resource bundle will cater for a wide range of ability levels and is perfect for inclusion. The card games can be used for pre-teaching before playing.
SPOONS - A card game for up to 6 players. There are 12 games with three syllable words organised by chapter. This version of SPOONS targets deconstruction and the ability to blend three syllables in the correct sequence. It has a word list in each game to provide support to those students who need this level of phonemic development but it will also contribute to spelling and vocabulary enrichment for all abilities.
MINI POSTERS - There are six mini posters for each chapter with some short chapters combined. The 50 posters feature the word, part of speech relevant to the context, definition and an extract from the text. The target skill is vocabulary development.
STACK 4 - This is a worksheet/game for two players with the target skill being decoding and word families. You need a six-sided die to play and a pencil for each player for once-only play. You can use each game multiple times because the throw of the die means it is a different game each time it is played. It is suitable for a whole class or small group.
DONKEY - This is a card matching game for up to six players. There are 13 games with 45 cards in each. The target skill is vocabulary development with players having to identify opposites (powerful/powerless), to make a pair.
The bonus game is a game of STACK 4 that targets using words instead of 'said'. There are lots of alternatives in this book.
