Clean Water Crisis | Water Sustainability Investigation | Research & Design Challenge | Stage 2 & Stage 3 Can you design a water system that provides safe, reliable and sustainable water for a community? What happens when a community's water supply is under pressure? In Clean Water Crisis , students step into the role of a Water Solutions Planning Team and investigate a real-world challenge faced by communities around the world. Students explore how communities respond to water shortages, changing demands, environmental pressures and the need for reliable access to safe water. They investigate real-world approaches, analyse evidence and use their discoveries to develop their own solution. The challenge is open-ended: there is no single correct answer. Students must consider the evidence, make decisions and explain why their solution could work. A REAL-WORLD PROBLEM Clean water is essential for life, yet communities can face very different water challenges. Students investigate the question: How could we design a water system that provides reliable clean water for a community? Rather than being given a solution to reproduce, students investigate how different communities have responded to water challenges and decide which ideas could work together in their own proposed system. INVESTIGATE BEFORE YOU DESIGN Students explore real-world approaches to water management and consider the evidence behind different solutions. The investigation encourages students to think about questions such as: How can communities obtain and manage water? How can water be made safer? How can communities prepare for changing water needs? How can technology contribute to water security? How can water systems support both people and the environment? Students then use their research to make informed design decisions. THINK LIKE AN ENGINEER This Investigation File is designed to develop research, critical thinking, problem solving and evidence-based decision making . Students have opportunities … [truncated]
