This is a cross-curricular learning project that integrates social studies, maths, geography, research, and writing. To complete this project, students travel to different continents as they take a world tour of six different countries. Through their travels, they will learn the location of these countries along with important facts about the culture. The countries students will visit and learn about include: Brazil Canada China Egypt Germany Russia SKILLS To get to each destination, students must use their budgeted money to buy plane tickets. They will also: use 3-digit subtraction with regrouping to calculate how much money is left after each purchase calculate elapsed time to find the duration of each flight find and mark each location on a world map label the continents on a map label the compass rose with cardinal directions Students record their travels in a passport booklet. They will research each location to complete its page in the passport with the following information for each country: continent capital city official language currency climate important landmark Kid-safe website suggestions for conducting research are included. The first page of the passport is the travel budget. Students use this page to keep track of their tickets and calculate how much money they have left after each purchase. The last three pages of the passport include a landmark matching activity, a page with addition, subtraction, and elapsed time questions, and writing activities.
