Tricky Word Code is a fun and engaging game that helps children recognise, read, and remember tricky words. Each student needs: A 9 × 9 Blank Grid A 9 × 9 Tricky Word Board A set of Tricky Word Cards Shuffle the Tricky Word Cards and place them face down. (You might choose to keep them face up) Turn over one Tricky Word Card. Read the word and see if you have it on your word board and which position it is in. If you do not have it on your word board place it back on the table and miss a turn. Find each matching tricky word and place it in the same position on your blank grid. Continue until your blank grid matches the Tricky Word Card exactly. When you have finished, read all of the tricky words aloud from your completed grid. Shuffle the cards and play again with a new pattern. For a challenge use the 4 x 5 grid. As children play, they strengthen their visual recognition of tricky words, improve reading fluency, and build confidence through repeated practice.
