These booklets have been designed to provide consistent, repeated practice of tricky words through a range of simple activities. The tasks are repeated for each new tricky word, meaning students quickly become familiar with what they need to do and can work with increasing independence. This also means less teacher explanation each time a new tricky word is introduced!

Students practise each new tricky word through the same familiar sequence of activities, giving them plenty of opportunities to recognise, read, write and practise the word.

✏️ Designed for Independent Practice

These booklets are particularly useful as a literacy station or rotation activity.

Once students understand how the activities work, they can complete much of the booklet independently. This gives the teacher valuable time to move around the classroom, check in with students, listen to them read their tricky words and provide individual support where needed.

🌱 Why I Created This Resource

I wanted a resource that would make tricky-word practice simple, predictable and manageable for young learners, while also allowing me to spend more time working directly with students rather than continually explaining new activities.

The repeated format means students know what to expect as they progress through each new tricky word.

📖 InitiaLit Alignment

The tricky words in these booklets have been organised in the same order in which they are introduced in the InitiaLit literacy program, as this is the program used in my school.

However, this resource is not affiliated with, sponsored, endorsed or approved by InitiaLit or its publisher. It is an independently created resource that has been aligned to the tricky-word sequence for classroom convenience.

You do not need to use InitiaLit to use this resource. The pages can simply be photocopied in whatever order best suits your classroom, teaching sequence or students' needs.
