Have you ever had a student return to school after they their absence and ask "Miss, what did I miss? I was away yesterday". This resource allows students to take ownership of the learning they missed out on while they were absent. What's included? A 'While you were away... we were very busy' poster: display this on your designated tub. Instruction Poster: should be placed on the wall above the tub and displays clear step by step instructions to guide students through the catch-up process independently. Daily Learning Record: teacher records what the class completed for each subject that day, including the resources they used. Weekly Learning Record: teacher records what the class completed for each subject that week, including the resources they used. Student Recording Sheet: students who take resources from the tub fill in this sheet. They record their name, the dates they were away, the resources they took and confirmation that they returned the learning record back to its designated spot in the tub. How does the system work? For the weekly learning record, place it in the Friday section for that corresponding week. At the end of each day & week, the teacher completes the learning record, noting down the work they completed in each subject and the resources they used. Teachers place the learning records in their designated spot in the tub (based on the date). Prior to students using this system, ensure the instructions sheet is placed nearby the tub. Ensure the tub has the 'while you were away' poster at the front. When a student is away, they come to this section of the class. They read the learning record for the days/weeks they were away (based on the dates they were away). Students use the learning record to identify and collect the resources they need to catch-up on their missed work. Stude… [truncated]
