Worksheet/Game - ROLL and PLAY - x10 and x100 with Decimals AC9M5N01
Overview
Description
It might be a worksheet, but the game element will have your students wanting more. It can be played in pairs as a whole class as long as you have two dice for each pair. It targets AC9M5N01 in the Australian Curriculum and builds on AC9M4N05 in Year 4 which targeted whole numbers only. This game takes the same concept to decimal numbers and reinforces decimal place value concepts. It is the intermediary step before AC9M6N06 in Year 6.
Players throw the dice, solve the multiplication, then write in the answer. This will correspond with a space on the Bingo Sheet underneath if it's correct. They claim that space ... except the opposing player can take that space if they throw the same dice combination. Play goes on with 25 opportunities to multiply decimals by 10 or 100 but the fun is in trying to win. All the while multiplying by powers of ten and understanding the number system is becoming more and more familiar.
The game will never be exactly the same twice due to the randomness of the dice throw. It can be played over and over.
