Santa’s sleigh is stuck in the snow at the North Pole, and he needs your help to get it moving before Christmas Eve. To unlock its magic, you must complete 7 maths challenges and collect clue along the way. Each clue is a letter or word that helps build a secret Christmas phrase. Once you have collected all of the clues, you will use them to solve the final puzzle and unlock the joy of Christmas!

End of Year Summative Task

Challenge your students to utilise the skills they have developed across the year in Mathematics by taking part in this escape room style task. As they complete each of the 7 checkpoints, they will need to use their understanding of most concepts covered across all strands of the Mathematics curriculum for Year 3.

This task can be used simply for fun, or as a way to monitor/assess student understanding and ability as the end of year reporting approaches.

Minimal Printing and Preparation!

The only real preparation that needs to occur is printing off the 1 task sheet for each checkpoint, and even that is optional! The PDF file could easily be sent to students and the entire task could be completed digitally to save your printing budget (which is probably nearing its end as the school year finishes). No cutting or laminating is necessary!

Differentiation Provided

Each of the 7 checkpoint tasks comes differentiated at three different levels:

• 🎯 Core - Tasks are provided at a standard Year 3 level.
• ⭐ Support- Tasks are differentiated to be more accessible through increased scaffolding and visuals, as well as more hands-on/manipulative resources being utilised.
• 🚀 Extension - Tasks are differentiated to be more challenging. They are typically more abstract and involve multi-step problems and an increased level of reasoning.

The resources are discretely labelled according to their level, so students won't even realise their sheets may be different to others.
