## How Victorian Teachers Move Up the Pay Scale

- **Graduates** start at **1-1**. Teachers with approved teaching experience start one subdivision higher for each full-time-equivalent year, up to 2-6. Casual relief teaching in Victorian schools since 2005 and interstate or overseas teaching can count.
- **Progression is not automatic.** Each year, from 1 May to 30 April, your progress is assessed through the performance and development process. There is no quota, and you need at least six months at a subdivision to be eligible.
- **Range 1 to Range 2** requires meeting the Range 2 standards.

### Allowances

The 2026 agreement sets a remote allowance (Remote A: $610 a year with dependants, $390 without; Remote B: $360 and $235) and a $1,250 special schools allowance. The Department can also offer extra incentives to attract teachers to rural, regional and hard-to-staff schools.

Victorian teachers receive the standard employer super contribution of 12% on top of their salary.
