Sentence Writing Prompts about Sports - ELA Writing Center Practice Activities
Overview
Description
Build student motivation to write with these Sports sentence writing prompts. Students use their imagination, creativity and interest to draw on a background and then write about it. Teachers can still set a writing focus if desired. Perfect for differentiation as everyone can use the same picture with different writing expectations if needed.
The possibilities for writing tasks are endless and can be set as needed. Some ideas for what students can write include: writing what they see in the picture - write a story/narrative - teachers can create a word bank with the students and have students use those words in sentences - sentences starting with a subject - simple sentences - complex sentences - sentences with expanded noun groups - sentences with multiple adjectives - sentences with different functions eg. exclamation, declarative etc - whatever else the students have been working on in class.
What you'll get:
- 12 different background pictures to draw on
- For each background there are three different page formats
- a page with handwriting lines
- a page with normal lines
- a page with 3 backgrounds so that students can glue one into their writing book and write in that
- That makes 36 pages in total!
- A link to the Google Slide is in the PDF download.
The backgrounds included are: Baseball | Basketball | Bowling | Football | Golf | Gym | Ice Hockey | Racing | Soccer | Swimming | Tennis | Track and field
Students will love:
- that they get to decide what to draw on the background, and therefore they get to decide on what they write about.
- that they will be able to quickly decide what to write about. No more 'getting stuck' about not knowing what to write about
