Description

Your students will be engaged and have a ball playing my 'Feed the Pigs' Syllable Printable Game. It can be played in a number of ways, making this resource a fabulous addition to your classroom games library. It includes 72 picture cards that have 1, 2, 3 or 4 syllables.

To play:

1. Print the pages of this resource in colour. You can either print them A4 or A3.

2. Laminate and cut this resource for longevity.

3. Play the game in one of the 3 ways below!

This game can be played individually, with a partner or in a small group.

If playing individually, shuffle cards and turn them over one at a time. Say the word out loud. Then clap the syllables and identify how many syllables/ beats are in the word. Feed the picture to the pig. As this is a phonemic awareness activity, no words are included. Some of the pictures can be perceived as different things E.g., The picture of the boy taking the photo could be photo, photographer, boy (it really doesn’t matter- just ensure that they say the word and clap the matching number of words).

If playing in a small group, I get students to turn the playing cards over and I put them in a big pile. Players take it in turns of turning over a card. The person who turned over the card tells the group the picture that is on the card out loud. They all repeat the word and then as a group we clap the beats. The person who turned the card over, feeds the picture to the correct pig. When players are confident, they can have a turn by themselves at clapping the word.

If playing with a partner or a teddy, take it in turns of turning over a card. They can either work together to clap and identify the syllables or do it one at a time. They can either have the cards in a shuffled pile or have the cards face down to reveal a mystery picture to sort.

The playing cards can be used for other literacy activities such as beginning or final sound identification games.

Please note that this resource needs to be opened in PowerPoint. It is locked and secured and is NOT editable.

Thanks so much,
