Description

1. Print the pages of this resource in colour on A4 paper or card.

2. Laminate and cut this resource for longevity.

3. Play the game!

This game can be played individually, with a partner or in a small group.

It is advised that it is ran as a small group in case students cannot tell what the picture is.

There are two differentiated levels included:

• Level 1- CVC

• Level 2- A mix of CCVC and CVCC

Each player needs a gameboard- either the pond with the apple, egg, igloo, octopus and umbrella or the graphemes that represent the phonemes. Students take it in turns turning over a card. They place the card on top of the matching short vowel sound. The first player to cover all 5 short vowels is the winner.

If you get two of the same short vowel, you can stack the pictures up on top of each other.

There are 150 playing cards in total- 75 in each level. They all consist of words with short vowel sounds (either CVC, CCVC or CVCC) for your students to isolate. It also comes with a wordlist so that you can identify what the pictures are, if your students aren't sure to support them.
