Description

This PowerPoint explicitly teaches the digraph wh making the /w/ sound. I am aware that some peoples accents/ curriculums refer to the wh digraph making the /hw/ sound, however this resource focuses on wh representing the /w/ sound like whale and wheel. It refers to wh being a consonant digraph- 2 letters that make 1 sound.

This pack includes:

- An introduction to the wh digraph.

- A child friendly Learning Intention.

- Digraph wh flaschards.

- Can you see the digraph wh hiding behind the white snowmen?

- Help the whale find the pictures with the wh digraph.

- Click on the dirt piles that have the wh digraph to fill up the wheelbarrow.

- Whack the moles that do not have the wh digraph.

- The 'This or That' game- Which picture has the /sh/ digraph?

- Explicit formation of wh

- Decodable Word Flashcards.

- Decodable Sentences.

- Whistle with Whitney if the word has the wh digraph.

- Oh whiff! Help the skunk pick the word with the wh digraph.

- Write the wh words on your whiteboard. Read them to a partner.

It also has a slide stating that the wh digraph can make the /h/ sound although this resource does not focus on this sound.

The decodable sentences included could also be used as dictation- where the teacher asks the students to write a sentence one word at a time, to assess learning to see if students are applying this spelling rule.

This resource comes in 6 fonts:

  • Tas
  • Vic Cursive
  • Sassoon
  • NSW
  • QLD
  • SA

The text in these PowerPoints is editable, allowing you to change up words and sentences if you desire. The cliparts and backgrounds are not editable but the text is.

You can also get my complete digraph bundle by clicking on the link below. The complete bundle includes 10 PowerPoints for explicitly teaching consonant digraphs (sh, ch, th, floss- ss/ ff/ ll/ zz , ck, ng, wh, wr, ph and kn).

I also have single sounds PowerPoints and Vowel Team PowerPoints available on my TPT. These are also interactive and must be opened in Microsoft PowerPoint for the animations to occur.

Thanks,

Meg Clark
