Are you looking for a highly engaging activity to help your students learn to read by improving their fluency, automaticity and blending skills? These silly decodable sentences not only allow students to work on their reading skills, they also make learning to read so much fun! Simply print and laminate all of the resources included in this pack. Cut them out, sort them into their colours and place an elastic band around all of the cards to keep them together.
This is available in Sassoon, Vic Cursive, QLD, and NSW font!
How to use:
These are easily differentiated. The teacher is required to give each individual student the sentence construction template that states ‘I can make and read a silly sentence’ that they require, either set 1, 2 or 3, depending on their reading ability.
Set one focuses on all single sounds a-z- CVC
Set two focuses on CVC, CVC (adjective, noun) with some plurals +s.
Set three: CVC, blends, ck. Floss, oo, some bossy e and some multisyllable words (take out any cards that you have not yet taught, or any that are not relevant.
Each set contains a sentence building sheet with a black background or a white background for you to select from.Students simply turn over a card, match the colour and place it on their ‘I can make a read a silly sentence template’.
When all 1, 2, and 3 boxes are filled with cards, students read the sentence out loud. They can then record it on the optional recording sheet or make another sentence, if you only want to focus on reading skills and not writing. This can be played individually, with a partner or even in a small group. It can be played during literacy groups with a parent helper, aide or teacher group. It is all colour coded to make it easy for both you and your students.
It also comes in Black and White but only in NSW and Sassoon fonts.
