Overview
Description
These two games will consolidate CVCC words in a fun way. Each game has 63 cards (45 word cards, 9 SWITCH cards and 9 PICK UP 2 cards). I have included the words I have used in the PREVIEW so you can check them for suitability.
The word cards target skill development and the SWITCH and PICK UP 2 cards provide the fun and motivation to play over and over, which is just what some learners need. The most important aspect of the game is that a player says the word on the card that they play. If you play in mixed ability groups you could scaffold this step with all players saying the word.
The games in this package will develop blending terminal consonants as I have found this to be an issue with some students. While beginning blends can be a barrier sometimes, I see decoding of the terminal blends more often. That is why I teach them with the short vowel sounds that they already know.
I use Switcheroo to develop fluency when phonemics have been addressed with my other games and activities. There is an element of strategic thinking that appeals to older students who are still at this level of skill development, particularly those students whose reading skill development does not correlate with their oral language.
