Long a - SPOONS Game - 2 Sets (36 Cards per Set) - a_e, ai, ay, eigh, ei & ey
Overview
Description
This game targets the various spelling of the long 'a' vowel sound: a_e (magic e), ai ("When two vowels go walking the first does the talking" , ay, ei, eight and ey. It will contribute to reading and spelling skills when played regularly.
There are two games included with 36 cards in each game. In each game there are twelve sets of three. One card in each set has the rime and two words and the other two cards have these same words illustrated. The object of the game is to make a set of three. This step involves reading the words on the card and trying to make a set as cards are drawn and discarded. The fun begins when the spoons are involved and a player tries to sneak a spoon as surreptitiously as possible when they have a set.
You can mix the cards to suit your needs and there is a discreet label on each card to allow you to reconstitute the sets if you need to.
The words are:
Set 1: ey (they/prey), ain (grain, plain), ate (grate, mate), eigh (neigh, sleigh), aid (laid, maid), ace (face, lace), ein (vein, rein), ait (wait, bait), ail (mail, jail), ade (made, fade), aint (paint, faint), ay (tray, pray)
Set 2: ail (trail, snail), ain (drain, train), ate (plate, skate), ake (shake, snake), aise (raise, praise), aze (maze, laze), ay (play, clay), aid (paid, braid), ane (mane, plane), ade (spade, shade), ace (space, trace), eight (weight, eight)
