| Identifying emotions and feelings - body language | Bingo + PowerPoint + Posters

Identifying emotions is an important part of developing Emotional Intelligence but can be challenging for young students or those with Special Needs (such as ASD or EALD students).

What is it?

This explicit SEL PowerPoint lesson + bingo game + classroom posters teaches students about facial expressions and body language associated with 8 basic emotions. It also gets students to think about why someone might be feeling a certain way by using pictures of different scenarios (e.g., teasing, playing with friends etc.).

What's included?

Explicit teaching slides (22 pages) including:

  • Learning Intention
  • Success Criteria
  • I do (goes through the body language/facial expressions for each emotion)
  • We do (applies the learnt knowledge of emotions to different scenarios)
  • You do (bingo game)
  • Reflect on Success Criteria

Bingo game with:

  • 7 different game boards
  • 2 versions of play -
  • Version 1: Tell students the emotion name (e.g., 'happy').
  • Version 2: Show students the scenario cards (e.g., picture of a boy completing difficult school work).

Classroom Posters:

  • Diagrams of the facial expression/body language for 8 basic emotions (happy, sad, angry, scared, worried, tired, confused, embarrassed).

How to use it:

Simply download, print, and go!

  • Use the PowerPoint to guide students though the lesson steps.
  • Print each student a bingo board (optional: laminate boards for durability).

The best part:

The simplistic pictures and child-friendly explanations make it PERFECT for the early years (F-2)!

Enjoy!
