JAMES and the GIANT PEACH - SPOONS Card Games: DECONSTRUCTION/CONSTRUCTION of 3-Syllable Words
Overview
Description
This game will have your students highly engaged trying to deconstruct and construct three syllable words in each chapter of JAMES and the GIANT PEACH. There is mainly one game per chapter with a few chapters having two games, making 44 games in total. Each game has 36 cards with three cards making up the three syllable word, though syllable rules are not strictly followed with all words to enhance readability.
Although this game was developed to cater for students who find three syllable words intimidating, it will enhance fluency levels for all ability groups. Playing this game focuses on three parts of the word. You will find those students still needing decoding through deconstruction using the word list, which I encourage. Encoding through construction targets phonemics with blending and sequencing. I find it ideal for students with dyslexic characteristics but it will also assist those students who balk at multi-syllabic words.
The fun starts as students start matching their cards to make a word on the word list. Be prepared for the fun it will bring.
All the games have a discreet labelling system, so you can mix them and then reconstitute them if you need to.
