Description
When 'r' is combined with vowels reading and spelling can become a bit tricky, but this game provides the practice that removes confusion. When phonic skills aren''t as helpful as they can be the only solution is learning these letter combinations and sounds by sight and some students need to see and hear them more often than others. The target skill in this game is the vowel plus 'r' letter patterns that say "er".
SPOONS is a great game for high levels of engagement and students will be motivated to play without even realising they are recognising the letter combinations involved. This is the repetition that leads to results. Fluency rates improve and, with fluency, comprehension benefits.
This is a game for up to four players. There are 27 cards with nine sets of three cards. The winner is the first player to get a set. I use it with spoons, but any similar objects will suit.

ir +t: skirt, shirt

I have included five posters to support skill acquisition.
