Has this product been used in a real classroom?
Yes! I created this for my Grade 1 students. The mats are differentiated so it can suit students who can easily read the words but requires them to write sentences and explore the sounds in more detail. Being hands on, they love this.
How do I use this activity?
I teach the students how to use each mat first as a whole class demonstration. I then use them in small group rotations. You can use play doh or letter tiles for students to create the words once they have read them. You can also use the words as flashcards for reading skills.
Does this product include an assessment?
Yes. There are assessments for each word included in the pack. This includes both reading and writing. I have also included an editable checklist whereby you can add your own word list and skills to assess.
