Description

Flip Books are a critical element of intervention when foundation phonics have not been mastered easily. There is value in using hands, eyes and ears when sequencing the letter combinations, especially the pattern CVCe (that I call the Magic e pattern). This flip book is especially valuable. You can demonstrate short and long vowels by flipping the Magic e over so only the CVC word is visible. Then flip it back, picking up the pace as you go.

Reading alone will not provide the time and practice that some students will need, but five to ten minutes before reading will do the trick. Supplement that with a targeted game and you have a beginning reader who demonstrates progress and is full of confidence.

Reading pseudo words targets blending and sequencing. I usually ask, "Is that a real word?" The student usually knows it isn't but I like to ensure they understand the difference.

This Flip Book comes with two Word Banks, one arranged by onsets; the other by rime. There is also a suggested process for targeted intervention with graduated skill sequences you can use if you wish. I have included photos of how I assemble my Flip Books as well.
