Description
Games like Bingo bring high levels of engagement to learning. While they are essential for learning support, they benefit all ability levels to enhance fluency and comprehension.
Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl is a great choice when students are transitioning from structured reading materials. The introduction of more complex vocabulary is easily managed with games like this. They are preferable to worksheets because of the repetition they provide and it's this degree of repetition that ensures all students benefit.
There are six games included. Each game has ten boards with 25 words. The words are the same of each board, but the distribution is different. The winner (or winners if you play in groups) needs a column or a row to win. You will need lots of counters to play, but I laminate my boards and use wipe-off crayons that my students clean off themselves.
The flash cards are needed for playing the game, but also can be used for pre-teaching if that is needed. Chapters are combined in lots of three. There is a discreet labelling system on all boards and cards if you need to combine games to cater for a larger group
Chapters 1-3: ache, barrel, beastly, boiled, careful, clever, crouching, danger, darkness, delicately, enormous, equally, especially, exactly, gently, murky, nasty, opposite, orchard, plump, poisonous, positions, rustling, shallow, underwater
Chapters 4-6: abandon, angrily, awful, brutal, ceiling, desperate, downwards, dumpling, earholes, electric, extraordinary, fantastic, frightening, furiously, machinery, mechanical, murderous, obstinate, quivering, ridiculous, shovels, surface, sweetheart, tenderly, whispered
Chapters 7-9: carefully, climbed, crater, disgusting, enough excitement, flashlight, hatchets, headlamps, huge, impossible, misery, powerful, pretending, purple, scarlet, scent, smothered, solemn, steaming, surely, surrounded, tractors, undefeated, weapons
Chapters 10-12: arrangements, brought, cautiously, chaos, courage, delicious, described, disappeared, disappointment, excitedly, exploding, fault, laughter, marvellous, prancing, properly, remaining, shriek, special, spluttered, terribly, tunnelled, underneath, wearily, whacking,
Chapters 13-15: accustomed, blindfold, bullseye, crumbly, directly, examining, glorious, interesting, juicy, magnificent, medicine, miraculous, morsels, overwhelmed, paradise, proclaimed, prowling, rafters, released, respectable, saliva, silence, suspended, underground, vegetables
Chapters 16-18: beautiful, beginning, burglars, colossal, courtesy, crouched, enemies, entirely, exactly, excitement, families, famished, hollow, hugely, impudent, paused, promised, ravenous, royalty, separate, souvenir, straight, succulent, swallow, tremendous
