Description

Structured phonics and sight words are the backbone of an early literacy program with reading and literature as the driver.

If you are looking for a sight word list, look no further. The first 300 of Fry's Instant Words represent around 65% of all common reading material, with the first one hundred being the most important with 50% representation. This list is based on solid research by Dr Edward Fry and revised in 1996 (1000 Instant Words: The Most Common Words for Teaching Reading, Writing and Spelling). The list is not based on any commercial reading program so word recognition will generalise to a broad range of reading materials, including library books.

This product contains all you will need to identify skill sets and organise ability groups.

The screening kit includes:

  • A record sheet (individual)
  • Class Overview (to facilitate ability groupings)
  • Tags (I have mounted these on a key ring for screening)
  • Student Record Sheet (for students to monitor their progress - especially important for older students who have struggled)
  • Word Cards (numbered)

There is a variety of games included to ensure high levels of motivation and engagement that will contribute to progress in reading fluency and comprehension.
