Description

This game targets vocabulary development using the book Grandpa's Great Escape by David Walliams. I use this book for students aged from 8 onwards when most of the common phonic elements are known but fluency is low and this is impacting comprehension. These students need reading practice and they need it in a way that is highly engaging to ensure learning takes place. That's why a game like DONKEY is an obvious choice.

DONKEY is a simple matching game for two to six players. I have chosen opposites to extend vocabulary at this stage of literacy development because that's what my students are usually ready for. There are 44 cards in each game with 22 pairs and a DONKEY card to add the fun. I have compiled a game for each five chapters but you can mix them easily or combine games for larger groups. The cards have a discreet labelling system for you to reconstitute the sets if you need to.

Although I specialise in learning support now I recommend games like this to target inclusion. Fluency rates will improve regardless of ability and the fun a game brings will contribute to class wellbeing overall.
