How do my students use this resource?
Robot's Rule Harmony Day Escape Room begins with students introduced to the scenario with a unique video desgined to hook your students. In Robot's Rule Escape Room the school principal has been replaced with a discriminatory robot determined to eliminate difference. Your students have been tasked with discovering the codes that will deprogram the robot and save Harmony Day!
Each of the four tasks has content focused on Harmony Day and is aligned to Year 5 and 6 outcomes from the Australian Curriculum V9. Your students should have prior knowledge of Harmony Day vocabulary along with why we celebrate Harmony Day in Australia..
Clear instructions are provided for teachers to run the Escape Room in their classroom, even if they have never used an Escape Room before. In small groups, with a partner or even individually, students work to complete 4 individual tasks. The tasks focus on completing a puzzle using knowledge of synonyms, decoding riddles and identifying national dishes that are then matched to national flags. The third task has student complete mathematical word problems based of population migration, using their answers to navigate through a maze. Finally students use their knowlege of Harmony Day to complete a crossword puzzle.
With each task completed students will identify a code. After each task this code must be checked. This can be done manually by the classroom teacher, or self-marked using Code envelopes. Alternatively if you have access to technology in your classroom a QR code and Google Form have been created. Students enter the code into the Google Form. If correct students progress to the next task until all four tasks are completed.This means no teacher marking!

How do I use a Zip File
Robot's Rule Harmony Day Escape Room is a ZIP File. Download the file. Then choose to extract the file, saving the 2 files within the zipped file where you store resources on your computer.
How do my students check codes?
The technology version of the Escape Room includes a Google Form. Students can scan the QR code provided with an ipad to access the Google Form. Students will use the Google Form to enter the codes they discover by completing hands on puzzles. The Google Form only progresses if answers are correct.
Can I use the Escape Room without access to the internet?
Not having access to technology does not mean your students will miss out. Full instructions and materials needed to run a tech-free version of the escape room have been included.
How do I access the video to introduce the Escape Room?
The video guaranteed to grab your student's attention has been included in the zip file. There is also a link you can click on and display the video for your students on the class IWB. This is how I recommend you begin the lesson.
