Description

This game is based on Matilda, by Roald Dahl. It targets grammar, spelling, comprehension and vocabulary development and it does it while having lots of fun. There is no better way to learn, and it is certainly more engaging than a worksheet. I use the Mini Posters as introduction to new vocabulary and Stack 4 as a quick review and/or homework. This game is complementary but has more breadth and depth. It targets syllabication which is a vital skill, especially for those students with dyslexic characteristics. It does this by counting syllables, but also through spelling by deconstructing the word either orally or in writing. Students of all abilities will benefit in terms of fluency rates.

Each game has five game boards and sixty word cards. There are differences between game boards, e.g., the number of syllables in a word. Some boards reflect the variety of words in the chapter, e.g., compound words. Players have to match the word they choose to their board. Some words may fit more than one Part of Speech. I have not included an extract from the book as I have done in previous versions when my students were still learning these concepts (e.g., James and the Giant Peach). I have found it is not as necessary by this level. I have also included blank editable cards to increase flexibility.
