Description
This screener has been developed over many years to target specific skill deficits in foundation phonic skills. I learnt that letters, sounds and blending were the primary barriers to reading progress. Identifying specific skill targets means intervention is efficient, effective and time sensitive, allowing students to 'catch up'. I developed lots of games targeted at these skill deficits for the sole reason that repetition was the key to progress, often needing to replace habits that had developed over time. Nothing replaces good teaching, but games pick up after direct teaching. They provide the level of engagement and practice that is needed. When they target the specific skill deficit they are magic.
