This Stage 1 Maths Assessment has been designed to assess students' understanding of key mathematical concepts taught during Weeks 1–5 of the EAST Maths program.

It provides teachers with an opportunity to gather evidence of student learning across a range of outcomes through short, accessible and developmentally appropriate tasks.


Students demonstrate their understanding of:

  • Place value (tens and ones)
  • Positional language and directions
  • Counting on to add and counting back to subtract
  • Months and seasons
  • Doubles facts
  • Chance and likelihood
  • Equal grouping
  • Identifying and describing 2D shapes and polygons

The assessment includes a variety of question types such as drawing, number sentences, labelling and multiple choice tasks to support different learners and allow students to show what they know in multiple ways.
