Suffixes make words more interesting, but they can also present an extra syllable that needs to be decoded and looks hard. The more familiar students become with suffixes, the more confident they become as readers. This worksheet/game is the perfect way to familiarise multi-syllabic words in a highly engaging way.

I call this a worksheet/game because it's a worksheet first, but the game element provides the motivation to play over and over. You need two players and a six-sided die. Each player has a pencil. The throw of the die determines which column is chosen and the player identifies a word in that column they want to read. If correct they mark that space with their initials. The aim of the game is to get four words in a column without any spaces between them. Your opponent will try to block you if they can.

The game is never the same twice because of the randomness of the throw of the dice. Each board can be played over and over. There are 50 words on each board and you can extend the game to see which player gets the most stacks.
