SYNTHETIC PHONICS INTERACTIVE POWERPOINT- PACK 1 | Science of Reading | Australian Resource
Overview
Description
This is Pack 1 of my Interactive Phonics Packs and it focuses on introducing the sounds: /s/, /a/ as in apple, /t/, /p/, /I/ as in igloo, /n/.
There are 3 other packs that come after this one also available on my TPT store.
Pack 2: /m/, /k/ as in cat, /g/, /o/ as in octopus, /b/, /f/
Pack 3: /d/, /e/ as in egg, /h/, /u/ as in umbrella, /r/, /l/, /k/ as in kit.
Pack 4: /j/, /v/, /w/, /ks/- x as in fox , /y/, /z/, /kw/- qu as in queen.
This pack introduces each letter sound explicitly. It features the following activities for each phoneme:
- An explicit introduction stating the Learning Intention.
- An introduction for each letter stating the sound that the letter makes.
- Beginning Sound Flashcards with bright, engaging cliparts. The pictures are revealed with a simple animation- for engagement.
- An animated game where an object that has the same beginning sound will disappear revealing a letter. It requires students to say if it is the letter symbol (grapheme) hiding behind the clipart, that represents the sound (phoneme).
- An animated activity where 8 pictures will appear one at a time, and students will identify if each pictures begins with the phoneme. A tick or a cross will appear on the screen on the teachers click revealing the answer.
- Explicit formation (handwriting) in 4 multisensory ways. These are animated and highly engaging in multiple state fonts.
- A game for each sound to engage learners- whether it be a grapheme identification game or a decodable word reading game.
- Decodable flashcards (various varieties). Students could read the words (decode the words) and after reading the flashcards the teacher could then ask students to write some of the words by saying them, getting the students to sound out each word and write them- encode. After writing a short list of words, students could decode the words again working on their reading skills.
- Decodable sentences to read. Teacher to read, read together and then students read independently- or simply read together).
Students could then write one of the decodable sentences and the teacher could say one word at a time and encourage students to sound out each phoneme and record the grapheme that matches on their paper.
After teaching the letter sound, teachers could do a follow up dictation to complete their daily spelling session or literacy groups afterwards working on blending, phonemic awareness or comprehension (just a few ideas)

Please read the following about this resource:
1. This resource MUST be opened in PowerPoint. It is animated so you will be required to play this using the slideshow tab across the top.
2. Most of the slides require a click, and this is so you can work through as fast or slow as you desire. They are not designed to all be done in one day. You can copy and paste them into your own PowerPoint, using the slides that are relevant for your explicit teaching for that day but as they are secured you have to duplicate the slides to copy and paste them.
3. The words and sentences are all editable, in case your school follows a different sequence of sounds. You may wish to add your schools sight words or some links to some phonemic awareness games on the internet. These are just a few ideas to suit the many different spelling programs schools use. This was designed to complement your school's current program and add some interactive fun to your day!
4. This pack is designed to be used over a few weeks to reinforce each set of sounds. Students will need to use workbooks or whiteboards to record sounds and work on formation!
5. If you are going to add these slides to another PowerPoint presentation, or if you school follows a different order of sounds, duplicate the slides by right clicking on the side panel or simple reorder them by dragging into a different position.
6. Please do not try and edit the animations in any way in case it changes the layout/ animation paths set.
7. This is a licence for one classroom use only. If you are going to share it with your team, please buy an additional licences.
8. If something is not working in slideshow mode email me at megmacdesign@gmail.com
