Description

The SORT IT activities are ideal when you want to cater for a range of academic ability. You can use them for reading, sorting, matching and writing. There are 45 CCVCC words with sort vowels to target phonemic development, specifically consonant digraphs.

The words used are:

Short a: smash, crash, flash, stamp, snack, black, blank, crack, plant

Short e: smell, check, spell, chess, dress, spend, chest, swept, slept

Short i: sting, swing, sling, drink, spill, drill, chimp, print, stink

Short o: clock, block, flock, floss, cross, chomp, prong, blond, frond

Short u: crush, flush, brush, skull, trunk, grunt, crust, stuck, grump

You can use these cards in so many ways to suit the needs of your students. To develop vocabulary start with word+picture cards before targeting phonemic skills. The missing vowel pictures will focus your students on the short vowel sounds which are so critical at this stage. I find many of the difficulties I see start when vowel sounds are being confused. Matching will involve decoding when you use the picture and word only cards. Target writing when you are satisfied with reading progress.

The DONKEY card game is included for additional phonemic development, specifically rhyming. You can use it to match rhyming words prior to playing.

The posters have been added because some students seem to need them and the pockets are there so you can use them as an independent sorting activity if you wish.
