Overview

Description

This is a Number Talk for NSW/Australian Teachers of Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) that links to Combining and Separating Quantities.

Number Talks are a brief, daily (if possible) activity designed to strengthen students' number sense. This involves quick mental math exercises where students solve problems mentally and share their thought processes. Rather than relying on paper and pencil, the focus is on flexibility with numbers, encouraging students to use different strategies to find solutions. Through these "pencil-free" discussions, students improve their ability to visualize problems, calculate efficiently, and explain their reasoning clearly, making them more confident and adaptable in their mathematical thinking.

These slides do not need to be used in order, and not all need to be used. Use the slides that best link with where your students are in this strand.
