Description

This is Lesson 3 in a series of 5 lessons that introduce different drawing techniques and materials to your Foundation students.

Through looking at Ann Kullberg’s coloured pencil portrait of Three Boys, students will explore:

  • Drawings that represent different cultures and what artistic and subject clues we see to make us think the artwork is representative of a particular culture.
  • How these clues can be used as inspiration to create their own cultural drawings.
  • How to recognise the ‘subject’ of an artwork.

Using artworks representative of different cultures is an effective way to get students thinking about and discussing their own and other cultures. It’s also great for introducing portraiture as a way to creatively express how they see themselves and their friends.

Designed to make your art teacher life easier, the included lesson plans, assessment and slides to use during the lesson are aligned to the Australian Visual Arts Curriculum 9.0.
