  • Lesson Two: Staying Safe Online (How to stay safe online, unsafe things to look out for online, what to do if you feel unsafe online)
  • Lesson Three: Trusted Adults (Continuation of staying safe online: Who to go to when you feel unsafe, examples of trusted adults)
  • Lesson Four: Personal vs. Public Information (Explanation and examples of personal information, who personal information can be shared with, explanation and examples of public information, who public information can be shared with)
  • Lesson Five: Online Behaviour (How to behave online, online & offline behaviour similarities, online behaviour that isn’t acceptable, asking for permission)
  • Lesson Six: Your Digital Footprint (Explanation of digital footprints, what makes a digital footprint, how to have a good digital footprint)
  • Lesson Seven: Creating Safe Profiles (Discussion of when students may need to create profiles, safe usernames, safe profile information (location, name, date of birth etc.), safe profile pictures)
  • Lesson Eight: Keeping Your Digital System Safe (Digital systems refresher, passwords, fingerprint & PIN logins, creating safe passwords)
  • Lesson Nine: How Would You Feel? (Learning to recognise, understand and communicate emotions in relation to online situations, discussion of who to share emotions with depending on the situation)
  • Lesson Ten: Cyber Safety Detectives (Interactive quiz covering learnings from lessons 1-9, students receive a Cyber Safety Detective certificate at the end of the lesson - the quiz can be played individually, in pairs, in small groups or as a whole class)


Lesson Length:

  • Each lesson can be used in a 50 minute block, however, how long each lesson runs for is up to you! If you are short on time, pick and choose which parts of the lesson to use. There are multiple tuning in activities per lesson which can be condensed or skipped. 
  • If you have more time, run through the lessons as planned using all tuning in activities, warm ups and main activity.

  • Explain how to stay safe online, as well as explain (and be aware of) things that are unsafe online
  • Name the trusted adults in their life and understand when to ask a trusted adult for help 
  • Explain the difference between personal & public data, as well as give examples of both 
  • Explain, and demonstrate, how to behave online 
  • Explain how to keep their digital systems safe by creating and using safe passwords 
  • Explain how to create safe online profiles, as well as explain what makes an unsafe online profile

AC9TDIFP01: identify some data that is personal and owned by them

  • listing things that contain personal and public data, for example photos of themselves with their family (private) and photos of local community sites (public)
  • identifying apps and websites they use where their personal data could be made visible, for example photos of themselves on parents' or carers’ social media, or their username being shown to others in online games

  • exploring protective behaviours and help-seeking strategies they can use when they or others feel unsafe or uncomfortable
  • exploring and demonstrating assertive strategies to seek help when they or others feel unsafe
  • recognising online spaces and digital tools that are safe for them to use and recognising the importance of seeking help from a trusted adult if they feel unsafe while online
  • identifying a support network of adults they can trust to help them if they feel unsafe, uncomfortable or scared
