There are rules that help learn the general use of hard 'g' and soft 'g' but there are exceptions that make it hard for some students. Playing games like this exposes the players to more words than they would see through reading alone and the more they play, the more familiar the words become.

It is a two player game that can be used as intervention, consolidation or review. I use the incremental levels of difficulty when I have a student who needs to go back to basics and catch up as quickly as possible.

You can use either paper (for a single use game) or laminate and use counters or wipe-off pens. Players throw the die, choose a word from that column to try and get four adjoining words in a column to win. There is a strategic element to the game as the opposing player tries to block. The addition of a MISS a TURN column adds interest and a component of luck.
