Identify the first phoneme with these phonemic awareness beginning sound games and activities. Prepare your students for phonics instruction by developing their phonemic awareness. These engaging games and activities focus on the beginning sounds of words.

Phonemic Awareness Activities - Blending & Segmenting Up to 3 Phonemes

Phonemic Awareness indicators from PhA3 - (Australian) National Literacy Learning Progressions:

☑️ orally blends two or three phonemes together to make a one-syllable

word (e.g. a-sh: ash, s-u-n: sun)

☑️ orally segments words of two or three phonemes into separate phonemes

(e.g. up: u-p, cat: c-a-t)

☑️ identifies the number of phonemes that make up a spoken one-syllable

word comprised of less than four phonemes

☑️ identifies first and final phoneme in a word



Phonemic Awareness Activities - Blending & Segmenting Words with 4 Phonemes - CCVC CVCC Games

Phonemic Awareness indicators from PhA4 - (Australian) National Literacy Learning Progressions:

☑️ orally blends four phonemes together to make a one-syllable spoken word (e.g. s-t-o-p, stop)

☑️ orally segments spoken words comprised of four phonemes into separate phonemes (e.g. fresh, f-r-e-sh)

☑️ identifies the number of phonemes that make up a spoken, one-syllable word comprised of less than five phonemes

☑️ identifies the vowel phoneme in single syllable words
