## Description

In this activity, children sort words based on the number of syllables . This phonemic awareness task provides practice in segmenting words in to 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 syllables . To prepare this resource, simply print the word cards and monsters. Cut out the monster mouths and attach to small containers - or use the cards in your pocket chart! Children choose a card, say the word and count the syllables . They place the card into the correct monster's mouth. As an extension, children could create their own word cards to sort into the monster mouths. A simple cut'n'paste worksheet has been included as a follow up or 'Fast Finisher' option.
