Description

This Addition Problem Based Learning project allows your students to form their own equations based on the number of pages read each night.


Templates

  • This first task is to check that your students can add two numbers together.
  • They are colour coded by difficulty to allow for differentiation.
  • You will need a pencil and a paper clip to spin for the numbers.
  • Color copy these templates and laminate them for focus groups or learning centers.
  • They can also be placed in a clear packet to write on with a marker.
  • Use counters – Base 10 blocks or bundling sticks to work out the totals.


Working through the PBL task

  • Share the task
  • Choose the level according to the color for the number of pages read - this allows for differentiation
  • Use the cards or use the spinners to choose two or five pages read to add them together
  • Record the numbers chosen on a whiteboard, in your Math Book or in the recording booklet provided
  • Use counters, Base 10 Blocks or bundling sticks to add the pages read
