Focus
- recognise that length is the distance from one point to another
- use a given strategy to measure objects using non-standard units
- explain why more short units than long units are needed to measure the same length
- recognise the limitations of using non-standard units
- establish benchmarks for centimetres and metres and identify situations where they could be used to measure length
- use a centimetre ruler (displaying whole and half units) to measure length
- use a 1 m piece of string, with knots at ¼ m, ½ m and ¾ m to measure the lengths of large objects
